Annual Ritual of Forgiveness Meditation

I do this Ritual of Forgiveness annually during the Fall Equinox, and I know many of you do too. 

It’s become an “Annual Soul Maintenance Meditation,” that’s not unlike cleaning the gutters on your home each fall. Or, getting the hoses and summer cushions put away so you’re prepared for the changes in weather that are coming soon.

The Autumnal Equinox, the time of year when light and dark are in equal and in balance, is the marker on the path, the reminder that it’s time to do a very specific kind of soul maintenance: a, “Forgiveness Check.” 

It’s the time to clear our hearts and minds and free ourselves from hurts, resentments, and grudges that bind us to the past.

I encourage you to make this part of your annual “soul maintenance” routine.

Forgiveness is a powerful practice that brings us back into balance.

Many of us flit past it because we think either,

• I’ve done it already and there’s nothing left to forgive.
• I’ve forgiven enough.
• We are letting someone off the hook for something they need to be on the hook for.

How do you know if you are due for a Forgiveness Check?

The truth is, we don’t.
That’s the beauty of doing this as an annual Ritual. Stuff comes up that you didn’t even realize you were holding on to. Doing the ritual clears our energy fields and balances our inner world.

We feel freer, lighter, and prepared to move without fear or regret toward the sacred silent stillness of winter. 

I hope you can join me as we:

• Prepare our hearts and minds for the ritual with meditation, pranayama and mantra,
• Create a safe sacred field to enhance our experience of the ritual,
• Perform the ritual together—I do encourage using a shawl over your head,
• Close with mantra and a beautiful blessing for all beings.

Please bring your journal or notebook, something to write with, and a shawl.
